MCJ- Middle C
(Bachelor’s in Music Performance, Joseph McMurran Scholar, summa cum laude). Classically-trained pianist, guitarist, violinist, tenor-range singer, harmonica and melodica player.
Between August 2015 – April 2017, Matthew studied solo piano with Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao at Shepherd University. Prior to his attendance there, he completed his two-year Associate’s Degree in Music from Frederick Community College. In the Fall of 2016, he was the winner of the Mountain State Young Artist Competition (hosted by West Virginia Music Teaher’s Association). During his time at Shepherd, Matthew participated in Piano Ensemble, Masterworks Chorale, Men’s Choir, and Preparatory Orchestra. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi (ΦΚΦ) and Tau Sigma National honor societies. In April 2017, Matthew became a Joseph McMurran Scholar.
The “C” (in MCJ-MiddleC) stands for his middle name: Conner. It also stands for the Middle C on the piano (C4), and for the following genres he plays: Classical, Classical-Crossover, Country, Classic Rock, Celtic, Chamber, Chamber Jazz, Chillwave, Chiptune, etc. Yes, Jazz is another genre he enjoys playing despite that Jazz starts with “J.”
